Join Piedmont Environmental Alliance for the organization's Annual Meeting on November 15 at 6pm at Temple Emanuel.

Mingle with community members over beer, wine and snacks, participate in a lively environmental debate with Wake Forest University's nationally ranked Wake Debate team, find out who will receive our awards for Volunteer and Green Business of the Year, and get a behind-the-scenes report on PEA's work to inspire change through environmental education.

After the meeting, join TEEM for a screening of The Magical Forest, a documentary about the planet's great ecosystems and why they're vital for all life.

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is encouraged.

Piedmont Environmental Alliance inspires people to make choices that protect and restore the environment. Our youth education programs inspire young people in the Piedmont Triad to become the activists, environmentalists, and scientists who will solve the complex issues facing the planet. Our Earth Day Fair is THE event for celebrating sustainability and green living in the region, with great food and music, activities for adults and kids, and wonderful exhibitors and sponsors. You Can Help after Matthew - Fill A Flood Bucket

10/16/2016

As you know, Hurricane Matthew brought catastrophic flooding to the eastern part of our state.  If you would like to help, Maple Springs United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem will be the collection point for flood buckets.   These buckets will be collected from churches across our district.

Buckets can be dropped off at Maple Springs at 2569 Reynolda Road (between WFU and Polo Road).   Collection will take place October 24-October 31.

The UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) Mission Response Team in the eastern part of the state is scheduled to pick up the buckets on Monday, October 31.

Please see the list for cleaning bucket materials below.  If you wish to make a monetary donation you can do this in three ways:

  • Please make your check out to NC Storm Response #S-00176. You can mail this directly to: Conference Treasurer – Raleigh Area, P.O. Box 890202, Charlotte, NC 28289-0202
  • You can also make a donation to UMCOR for U.S. Disaster Response, which would aid with the clean-up efforts not only in NC, but in the other impacted areas as well. You may write a check to Maple Springs and write UMCOR #901670 flood relief in the memo line.
  • In addition, if you wish to donate to relief efforts in Haiti, the check would again be made to Maple Springs and write UMCOR #982450 Haiti flood relief in the memo line.

As a reminder, 100% of all donations to UMCOR go directly to the project specified.

Cleaning Bucket Materials
  • 5-gallon bucket with re-sealable lid: Buckets from fast-food restaurants or bakeries can be used if washed and cleaned; Do not use buckets that have stored chemicals such as paint or pool cleaner; Advertisements on the outside are acceptable.
  • Liquid laundry detergent; One 50-oz. or two 25-oz. bottle(s) only.
  • Liquid household cleaner; 12‐16 oz. liquid cleaner that can be mixed with water; No spray cleaners.
  • Dish soap; 16‐28 oz. bottle any brand.
  • 1 can air freshener; Aerosol or pump.
  • 1 insect repellant spray; 6‐14 oz. aerosol or spray pump with protective cover.
  • 1 scrub brush; Plastic or wooden handle.
  • 18 cleaning wipes; Handi Wipes or reusable wipes; No terry cleaning towels; Remove from packaging.
  • 7 sponges: No cellulose sponges due to mold issues; Remove from wrapper.
  • 5 scouring pads; Remove from wrapper; No stainless steel, Brillo pads, or SOS pads (nothing with soap built in).
  • 50 clothespins
  • Clothesline: One 100-ft. or two 50-ft. lines; Cotton or plastic.
  • 24-roll heavy-duty trash bags; 33‐ to 45-gallon sizes; Remove from the box.
  • 5 dust masks
  • 2 pairs kitchen dishwashing gloves: Should be durable enough for multiple uses; Remove from packaging.
  • 1 pair work gloves; Cotton with leather palm or all leather.
Assembly Directions

Place all liquid items in the bucket first. Place remaining items in the bucket, fitting them around and between the liquid items. Sponges, scouring pads, clothespins, and trash bags can be separated in order to fit all of the items in the bucket. Ensure the lid is closed securely.

Important Notes
  • All items must be new except for the actual bucket and lid.
  • All cleaning agents must be liquid and in plastic containers. No powders, please.
  • If you cannot find the requested size of a liquid item, use a smaller size. Including larger sizes of any item will prevent the lid from sealing.
  • If all of the items on the list are not included, please put a label on the bucket indicating what has been omitted.
  • Cleaning buckets are only used within the United States. They are not opened to verify the contents unless there is indication that some items have been omitted.
