Archdale, N.C. – Archdale Parks and Recreation (APRD) is pleased to announce parkrun is coming to Creekside Park. parkruns are volunteer led events held all over the world, with nearly 50 in the United States. Currently Durham boasts the only parkrun in North Carolina. Creekside parkrun is a free, timed, 5k, walk/jog/run event for all ages and abilities. It will be held every Saturday at 9 a.m. all year long, with a few exceptions. The first official Creekside parkrun will be held on September 18. Though not official, test events will be held on August 21 and September 11.
A group of local volunteers has been working to establish Creekside parkrun since 2020 when the scheduled launch was postponed due to the pause of parkruns around the world. Volunteer parkrun Co-Event Director Joyce Wolford says she’s excited to help bring parkrun to the Piedmont area of North Carolina. “The goal of Creekside parkrun is to encourage folks to be active and enjoy the outdoors. Everyone is welcome at these free, family-oriented events. We hope the central location of Creekside Park will attract not only people from Randolph County, but surrounding counties as well.” According to Jocelyn Moon, Marketing and Programming Coordinator, APRD was excited to cosponsor this event when it was presented by Wolford because it aligns so well with APRD’s mission and goals. parkrun encourages exercise in nature. Both exercise and being in a natural setting have been proven to increase not just physical health, but also mental health. So be sure to join us on Saturdays for exercise, scenery, and comradery.
The Creekside parkrun course starts and finishes behind the Senior Center inside Creekside Park. Participants are required to complete a one-time registration at https://www.parkrun.us/creekside/ for their free, personal barcode. The barcode is scanned at the completion of each event to calculate results. It also inc1udes the participant’s emergency contact information. There is no sign-up for each week’s event.
For more information about Creekside parkrun, visit our website or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram @creeksideparkrun.

Songs of Wake Forest with Dr. Edwin Graves Wilson
Friday, December 11 at 3:30 pm - YouTube premier
ZSR Library Special Collections and Archives invites you to join us in celebrating Songs of Wake Forest, the latest book by Dr. Edwin G. Wilson. Ed Wilson’s relationship with Wake Forest, which began when he entered the College as a freshman in 1939, has continued for more than eight decades. Throughout his tenure, he has paid tribute to many in the Wake Forest family whose lives have intersected with his – sometimes speaking on behalf of the University and other times as a personal friend of the family. Songs of Wake Forest celebrates our founding ideals and offers praise for the men and women whose character and contributions shaped the University as we know it today.
On Friday, December 11th, the ZSR Library will be holding a launch party, which will feature readings by Dr. Wilson and his reflections on the creation of this book. Registration is required. We hope you can join us.
For those of you interested in pre-ordering your copy of Songs of Wake Forest, please visit Bookmarks. We anticipate that books will be available in early January, unless there are unforeseen delays caused by the pandemic. If you would like to purchase multiple copies of the book or have questions about the event, please contact ZSR’s Renee Berry by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at (336) 758-5480.

Hi Jessica, 5,000,000 views! You're a top photographer on Google Maps. You've just accomplished what very few people have done: reached 5,000,000 photo views. Keep it up!
That's a fun email to receive!
Over the years, I've actively contributed to Google Maps by rating and reviewing local businesses, contributing photos, and fact checking as a Local Guide. Being a Google Local Guide is a fun (unpaid) way for me to share my love for our area; from parks, to museums, to retail and restaurants, I share information about local places on Google Maps and on my own website, Piedmont Triad Living.
Since 2012, I've shared places all across NC and beyond. The Piedmont Triad is home and you'll see strong endorsements for our local people, places, and things. In addition to contributing nearly 900 pictures to Google Maps, I've written more than 200 reviews and answered nearly 2,500 questions. Live laugh love play shop local.
It's been amusing to watch the number of views rise on the pictures I take. The world of Google seems to love Cook Out as much as I do. I contributed the first picture, a tray with onion rings from Cook Out, in December 2017. I snapped this pic in the front seat of my car before I took my first bite. It quickly rose to be my most viewed contribution, currently with 553,713 looks. Three of my top 10 viewed photos were from Cook Out trays LOL! I'm not sure how the algorithms work in determining what pictures are shown more often in Google Maps, but greasy food seems to be popular.
Twelve days later after hitting 5 million, I'm at 5,212,848 total views. Oh, if only I had a penny for every view!
My top 10 Views on Google Maps as of November 1, 2020:
