The Piedmont Triad: A Mountain Biker's Paradise

7/25/2023

Picture

The Piedmont Triad is a mountain biker's paradise, with each trail offering something unique and exciting. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, you'll find trails perfectly suited to your skill level. The beauty of this region lies in its ever-expanding network of trails, thanks to the passionate local MTB community continuously working to upgrade and extend the offerings.

Discover the Trails:
Kernersville Mountain Bike Park (Kernersville): A paradise for mountain bikers of all levels, the Kernersville Mountain Bike Park offers an array of trails to explore. From beginner-friendly paths to challenging singletracks, riders can hone their skills and push their limits.

Northeast Park (Greensboro): With five miles of novice trails, Northeast Park provides a fast and flowy training ground for beginners. Enjoy the scenic views along Reedy and Buffalo creeks as you cruise through pine forests and open meadows.

Tanglewood (Clemmons): Divided into three loops, Tanglewood Park offers eight miles of pure biking bliss. The Northeast Trail is perfect for beginners, while the Northwest and North Central trails provide punchy climbs and thrilling descents for more advanced riders.

Hobby Park (Winston-Salem): For those seeking a challenging intermediate ride, Hobby Park's seven-mile loop is a must-visit. Be prepared for punishing climbs and rewarding descents amidst the beauty of the Triad's natural surroundings.

Horizons Park (Germanton):  Horizons Park is a shining example of the classic, old-school rake-and-ride trail style that Forsyth County has to offer. Each lap here will take you on a thrilling 3-mile journey through tight, twisty paths adorned with roots and kept narrow for that primitive riding experience. This place is a mountain biker's dream, especially for those eager to brush up on their skills and tackle some challenges. It's perfect for nature lovers too, with its raw beauty and unspoiled trails. Even if you're an advanced rider, be prepared for a real test of your speed-riding abilities!

Wild Turkey (Greensboro): As one of the most popular trails in the region, Wild Turkey boasts a fast and exhilarating five-mile rollercoaster ride. Cruise through the forest along Lake Brandt's shores, encounter tight turns, moguls, log pyramids, and breathtaking views.

Owl's Roost (Greensboro): Speed and technicality define Owl's Roost, making it a favorite among experienced riders. Twist and dip through more than four miles of rugged intermediate to advanced singletrack along Lake Brandt.

Mountain Bike Clubs in the Piedmont Triad:
  • Lexington, NC - Roadies & Dirties
  • Greensboro, NC - Piedmont Fat Tire Society (PFTS) (they have a good list of Greensboro/Guilford County trails here.)
  • Kernersville, NC - Kernersville Cycling Club
  • Winston-Salem - FORBA - Forsyth Off Road Bicycle Association
