​Halloween is just around the corner, and it's that time of the year when ghouls, ghosts, and goblins come out to play. While costumes and candy are essential components of this spooky holiday, the neighborhood you choose for your trick-or-treating adventure can make all the difference. That's why we've compiled a list of Triad neighborhoods that take Halloween to the next level.

This list is nowhere near inclusive of all the wonderful neighborhoods to trick-or-treat in the Triad.  All of these neighborhoods were suggested by local people in various groups on Facebook.  There is no guarantee from us that there will be full neighborhood participation in any of the neighborhood on our list.

Ensuring a safe and enjoyable trick-or-treating experience is essential, especially for children and families. Here are some suggestions for safely trick-or-treating:

1. Travel in Groups: Always go trick-or-treating in a group, ideally with friends and family. There is safety in numbers, and it's more fun to share the experience with others.
2. Plan Your Route: Before heading out, plan your trick-or-treating route and make sure someone knows where you'll be and when you plan to return.  If you're going to a neighborhood other than your own, don't drive house-to-house.  Park your car and walk house-to-house, making the road safer for everyone
3. Stay Visible: Wear bright or reflective costumes, carry flashlights, and use reflective tape on your clothing to make yourself more visible to drivers.
4. Follow Traffic Rules: Cross streets at crosswalks and obey traffic signals. Look both ways before crossing, and be cautious of drivers who may not see you.
5. Choose Well-Lit Areas: Stick to well-lit neighborhoods and streets. Avoid dark, unfamiliar areas.
6. Check Treats: When you get home, inspect all treats. Discard any opened or tampered items. It's always a good idea to provide pre-packaged, store-bought candy instead of homemade treats.
7. Respect Property: Be respectful of people's homes and property. Don't enter private property or approach homes that are not participating in Halloween festivities.
8. Costume Safety: Ensure costumes are flame-resistant and fit properly to prevent tripping. Avoid costumes that obstruct vision. If using makeup, do a patch test to ensure no allergies or skin reactions.
9. Wear Comfortable Shoes: Choose comfortable, well-fitting shoes that you can walk in easily. Avoid high heels or shoes that may cause blisters.
10. Stay Hydrated: Depending on the weather, it can get warm in a costume. Stay hydrated, especially if you're walking for an extended period.
11. Emergency Contact Information: Keep a list of emergency contacts in your child's pocket or costume. Make sure they know their full name, address, and phone number.
12. Use the Buddy System: Younger children should be accompanied by a responsible adult. Older kids should stick with their group.
13. Avoid Masks: Masks can obstruct vision. Consider using face paint or makeup instead. If a mask is worn, ensure it provides clear vision.
14. Set a Curfew: Decide on a curfew for returning home and make sure everyone knows when and where to meet.
15. Be Mindful of Allergies: If your child has food allergies, be cautious about the treats they receive. Consider participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project, which indicates non-food treats for kids with allergies..
16. Have a Cell Phone: If age-appropriate, kids and parents should carry a cell phone for communication.

Remember, safety should always be the top priority. By following these guidelines, you can help ensure a fun and safe Halloween for everyone involved.
